Sadaqah isn't just charity—it is a profound act of worship, your direct connection to Allah'sﷻ mercy. The word originates from the Arabic root ‘sidq’ (truth), embodying sincerity, compassion and faith. From a warm smile to a life-saving donation, any good deed that helps others for the sake of Allahﷻ counts as Sadaqah, drawing us closer to Him and purifying our souls.
Unlike Zakat, which has specific rules, Sadaqah is a voluntary charity given for the pleasure of Allahﷻ. Sadaqah comes directly from the heart, whenever you choose, in any amount, to anyone in need.
Prophet Muhammadﷺ said: "Protect yourself from Hell-fire even by giving a piece of date as charity." –[Bukhari]
Each act of Sadaqah washes away sins, softens our hearts, keeps us humble and opens unimaginable doors to Allah'sﷻ mercy.
Sadaqah takes countless forms, each carrying immense reward:
The difference between Sadaqah and Sadaqah Jariyah lies in the type of charity and the type of reward that comes with it. All Sadaqah is immensely virtuous; Sadaqah Jariyah is a perpetual charity that continues to earn you rewards, even after death—for example, digging a water well, planting trees, or sponsoring an orphan.
Lillah, literally meaning “For Allahﷻ”, is another sacred type of voluntary charity. Typically, a Lillah donation is given to an institution to contribute to the betterment of others. Masajid, hospitals and schools are some examples of places that would receive Lillah.
Lillah is charity in its purest form—given solely for Allah'sﷻ pleasure and the benefit of others. You're not just helping others; you're offering your wealth directly to Allahﷻ as an act of worship and surrender.
There are fewer rules for Sadaqah than there are for Lillah. While Sadaqah can be any act of kindness, Lillah also comes from a place of compassion and generosity, typically in the form of a monetary donation. All acts of Lillah can be considered Sadaqah, but not all acts of Sadaqah are considered Lillah.
As much as our Sadaqah benefits those in need, our hearts also need Sadaqah.
Sadaqah is a cornerstone of Islamic teachings because:
Your Sadaqah is a blessed means of earning Allah’sﷻ pleasure, and hopefully securing eternal rewards.
"The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed of grain which grows seven spikes; in each spike is a hundred grains. And Allah multiplies His reward for whom He wills." —[Qur'an 2:261]
Every donation is an Amanah—a sacred trust. One Ummah’s teams live among the people we serve. They see the tears, feel the desperation, and witness the joy when help arrives.
One Ummah is on the ground in 19 countries in urgent need of your Sadaqah, including Syria, Gaza, Pakistan, Somalia, Yemen, Bangladesh, Lebanon, and Afghanistan. We use your generosity to provide life-saving humanitarian aid to our brothers and sisters who need it most.
Emergency Relief
Long-Term Development
Your Sadaqah helped One Ummah deliver emergency food, clean water, medical care, and shelter to over 5 MILLION people last year—but more than that, you delivered hope amidst their hardship.
We'll be questioned about every penny on Yawm al-Qiyamah. That's why One Ummah operates a strict 100% donation policy. We will never use any portion of your donation for admin or marketing purposes. Every penny you donate goes towards your intended cause.
"Who is he that will loan to Allah a goodly loan so that He may multiply it to him many times?" —[Qur'an, 2:245]
This isn't just charity—it's a loan to Allahﷻ, repaid with immense blessings in this life and the next.
Your Sadaqah makes a difference for millions every year. By giving through One Ummah, you're not just donating—you're answering Allah'sﷻ call to care for the less fortunate, fulfilling your duty to the Ummah, and you're investing in your Akhirah.
And your Sadaqah doesn’t just change their life, it transforms yours. You'll sleep knowing you answered someone's dua. You'll wake up knowing Allahﷻ is pleased with you.
